Photographs 1

I have various collections of everyday objects.
In my room, I house all the ones that fit, in a cabinet. It's a 6ft glass case of slightly dusty nostalgia.

Cynthia Poole

Personally, Cynthia Poole's work does not hold as much inspiration for me as Wayne Thiebaud's, but there are elements which I find exciting.
In particular:
I love the fact that I thought this was a photograph when I first saw it.
I like the fact it's so everyday - it's not a glamorous composition, it's attainable, it's a kitkat chunky.

Wayne Thiebaud

I have always liked Wayne Thiebaud's work, not simply due to the fact that I like the subject matter, but I like his style; the light and shadow, the colours, and the way that the texture of the acrylic paint makes everything look almost edible, as if he's been painting with frosting.

Exam Question

Collections of everyday objects have provided a rich source of study for artists such as Wayne Thiebaud and Cynthia Poole. Everyday objects have also been used in an inventive way in the three-dimensional work of Louise Nevelson and Tony Cragg. Consider appropriate work and develop a personal response.
